Books, Books, Books! What’s on at the Southside Fringe?

It’s official, the Southside Fringe Festival is in full swing! In case you missed the notif, we’ll be celebrating at the square outside Langside Hall from 12pm until 5pm at the Southside Fiesta, and we’d love to see you there for an afternoon of live entertainment, stalls, and shenanigans!

For now, though, and if books and literature are what tickle your fancy, we have a neat little collection of varying events just for you!

The first bookish event to hit the shelves (specifically this coming Thursday) is one that’s near and dear to our hearts: Southside Stories. We’re huge fans of anything that helps local creativity, and this open mic event for writers of poetry and prose alike to showcase their work is no exception. Whether or not you have a lot of experience with live readings, this is your chance to hear from the writing stars of tomorrow. And if you’d like to be on the other side of the mic, all you need to do is get in touch!

Southside Stories is a free event hosted by Booked on Pulse 98.4 and taking place at On The Fringe on Thursday the 16th of May, from 7:30 pm until 10:30 pm. 18+

Another event we’re particularly excited about is a little different. Taking place from 6pm until 8pm, on Saturday the 18th, is the launch of Claire Casey’s novel, Ravensrise. As the first book in Casey’s Ravensrise trilogy, this one-of-a-kind event will include a reading from the author and a Q&A.

If you're a chronic sufferer of FOMO, not to worry. An 8pm finish is early enough that you can go out on Saturday night, so if you’re a fantasy lover, why not let Casey pull you into a world of action, magic, and romance, where magic itself may very well be at stake…

Ravens is a free event taking place at On The Fringe on Saturday the 18th of May, from 6pm until 8pm. Donations are accepted on the door, and this event is for over 18s only.

And last but by no means least is The Metaphoric Table! Big words, bad words, and big bad words: this educational, comic presentation of literary devices from Raymond Burke is a must-see for readers, writers, students, and anyone who’s read a book. Taking place on Thursday the 23rd of May, we’re lucky enough to have Burke launch the new 2019 edition of the Metaphoric Table, at the Bungo, as part of the Southside Fringe Festival.

Not convinced? Well, if you’ve ever wondered what the Sex Pistols have in common with Shakespeare, this is your chance to find out through the silliest version of academic pretentiousness that can be found on this side of the Clyde.

The Metaphoric Table is a 14+ event for which you may pay what you like, and will take place at the Bungo-Lo, on Thursday the 23rd of May, from 8pm until 9pm.

Well, we don’t know about you but we’ve got a Fiesta to prepare for, so in the meantime, why not check out the full programme for a breakdown of events by day, and keep an eye out for more posts on our blog for highlights and reports on everything that’s happening? Hope to see you soon!
