In a time of incredible uncertainty in our day-to-day lives we thought that we would start showcasing some of the incredible small businesses, makers, freelancers and social enterprises that make the Southside what it is!
Shop local and keep it south, let’s try to help all of the local Southsiders who need customers just now! However, please don’t forget to wash your hands more than usual and if you are experiencing any symptoms then please don’t go out.
The Glad Cafe - www.thegladcafe.co.uk
At the point of writing, The Glad Cafe has just shut their doors for the foreseeable future! As a Community Interest Company they work hard to support their sister charity the Glad Foundation, and their Co-operative venture Glad Rags Thrift Shop. The Glad Foundation runs free and affordable music workshops for local people.
They have just set up a crowdfunder to try and keep them up and running once they reopen.
This venue is not your usual music venue! Ran by the guys from New Hell Fire Club, they solely live to help musicians, artists, and craftspeople self fund, promote, and create their own art. In 2019, they finally met their first long term target of opening a 150 capacity music and arts centre in Glasgow, called The Ice Box Arts And Music Centre,
They are currently shut just now but like always they have some big plans up their sleeve to help keep supporting their staff and musicians as much as possible. You can support them on GoFundMe or through Patreon.
Some Great Reward - https://www.somegreatreward.scot/
Still going strong is Some Great Reward! A cafe and record store in one, what more could you want when you are looking for a coffee and some great music? They have put in some extra house rules to keep us all safe such as paying with contactless, no water jugs on the table and not accepting reusable cups. Go grab your morning coffee and have a wee chill here this week.
